My favorite Japanese restaurant in the Atlanta area! We recently went back on a Saturday, and again liked the freshness and quantity of their food. I wish their health score was better though. :(

This is a popular place and I can see why. They have great lunch and dinner sets where you can get a variety of courses with Korean and Japanese dishes. Sushi and sashimi here are fresh, tasty, with some inventive choices. I love the little private table rooms available when you want a quieter vibe. Although, I tend to over order - I only ordered the tempura combo, but you get a lot of food: a few banchan dishes, salad, soup, sashimi and sushi, shrimp and vegetable tempura. The tempura is super tasty with the extra crispy fried batter. The BF ordered 3 rolls and had a sushi party all to himself and everything was super delicious!

One of my favorite sushi spots prob the best spot on BuHi! It's a Korean Japanese restaurant so there is banchan and assortment of traditional Korean dishes available as well. The food here has always been excellent from their lunch combos (available M-F till 6 PM) to their a la cart and sashimi and sushi combos. Service is always quick and if you need attention there is a button at every table as well. Lately when I come with family we love getting the Mega Sashimi platter, it offers amazing variety and value. It's great coming with large parties because they have private rooms on the side of the restaurant and feels secluded from the rest of the restaurant. It's starting to get really busy so be sure to call in for a reservation, I think they only do it if it's over 6 people. Everyone is finding out about this gem and for good reason.

Kang Nam is a Japanese restaurant with Korean influences which has been part of the Buford Highway landscape since 1970. It is known for its sushi and balance of fusion and tradition. I ordered the lunch portion of the Kangnam Jungsik, which features sashimi, sushi, california rolls, soup (pumpkin and spicy fish soup), grilled mackerel, shrimp tempura, roe rice and banchan (Korean side dishes such as boiled peanuts, steamed egg, kimchi, tofu, fish cake, glass noodles). I enjoyed my meal at Kang Nam. The sashimi and sushi were as good as advertised. I was pleasantly surprised by the pumpkin soup, which is thicker and sweeter than I anticipated but also very delicious. The boiled peanuts were crunchy and provided just enough flavor. The grilled mackerel was light but tasted a bit on the oily side. I would recommend the lunch portion of the Kangnam Jungsik, as you receive a lot of food for the price point. I also loved eating in one of the private rooms and the great customer service. Kang Nam features an extensive menu, so I look forward to exploring the menu further during future visits.

Pretty big local mom and pop Japanese restaurant vibe. Koreanized Japanese restaurant with course meal options. Strongly recommend the Kangnam Jungsik A - course meal. We got the 런치정식 lunch course. Pumpkin soup, a variety of sashimi, sushi, California roll, grilled mackerel, shrimp tempura, roe rice, and spicy fish soup. Very affordable, delicious Koreanized Japanese course meal. Private tables are available as well! Highly recommend this restaurant.

This is off the highway, has a huge sign so not hard to miss. Free parking and a decent size parking lot. They have rooms that are covered or normal restaurants style seating. Me and my party were sat in the enclosed area. I ordered the Philadelphia roll and cucumber salad. they ordered the orange roll, ribs and seaweed salad. Also green tea. The food was good and service as fast.

What was Buford Highway like 50 years ago? Was it a place filled with international cuisine, abstract strip malls and a sense of otherworldliness? Those who did not grow up in the city have plenty of wonders as such to ponder upon during a visit to Kang Nam. Kang Nam is a trip into a time long passed. Having opened in 1970, it's seen it all. The place opened when the Cold War was still raging, when Michael Jackson's top hits were just getting rolling and humans just landed on the moon a year earlier. Now, it stands as a relic that is still popular for those in the know. Five o'clock opening time comes and the parking lot is already full of characters, some smoking in their cars nervously looking at their watches, others eagerly awaiting by the door, peeking to see the movement happening inside. Hunger driven thoughts flow by, such as, "maybe they'll open a minute or two earlier?" A Japanese restaurant ran by Koreans is about as Atlanta as it gets. After all, the Korean diaspora in the city is substantial and who does not love Japanese food? Fish soup, kim chi, flounder sashimi and American style sushi rolls are all here. Oh, and the free ice cream comes for the dessert. The meal is delicious. Sure, one might say that the fish soup is a bit heavy on bone fragments and that the flounder sashimi is a bit on the tougher side, but the meal as a whole is an excellent one. The fish is fresh and it is priced remarkably well. Kim chi is spectacular and so is the broth in the fish soup. Cuts of fish for nigiri are as generous as they get. There are a few bottles of high quality sake and an Italian made Asahi beer. Yes, you did hear that correctly. The people who work Kang Nam are kind, genuinely trying to make people happy, while also instructing very directly, how things should be done. Don't place your beer on the table, use the paper mat for that. Don't give away your spoon, you will need it for the soup later. Kang Nam is an unquestionable gem in the city and it's the kind of spot that needs to stick around for at least another 50 years.
